In an exciting development for the aquaculture industry, CABI has acquired a comprehensive list of 18 titles from 5m Books, with an additional 14 in the pipeline. These books, now available on the CABI Digital Library, cover critical topics such as fish farming practices and sea life pathology. Notable titles include The Shrimp Book II, edited by Victoria Alday-Sanz, Aquaculture Business, edited by Carole Engle, and Molluscan Shellfish Aquaculture, edited by Sandra Shumway. This acquisition marks a significant step forward in addressing the growing demand for knowledge and innovation in aquaculture, one of the fastest-growing food production sectors globally.

Strengthening Aquaculture Resources

Aquaculture has seen a consistent annual growth rate of 6% over the last three decades, making it an increasingly important subject for global food security. CABI’s acquisition of these titles not only adds to its extensive content library but also strengthens its position as a leader in agricultural publishing. Damian Bird, Publishing and Operations Director at CABI, expressed the importance of the acquisition, stating, “These high-quality books will complement the rest of our books programme by strengthening an area that is important to CABI. It sits well alongside existing content, including our CABI Compendium aquaculture channel and our abstract and indexing database coverage.”

Books Now Available on CABI Digital Library

For the first time, these aquaculture titles are available in various formats, including print, ebooks, and digital ebook collections, making them accessible through all major book channels. CABI’s robust digital platform ensures that professionals, researchers, and educators in aquaculture can easily access the latest resources to enhance their work and studies.

Unlocking the Potential of Aquaculture Knowledge

Jeremy Toynbee, Publishing Director at 5m Books, is confident that CABI’s stewardship will unlock the full potential of these publications. “We are delighted that CABI has acquired the aquaculture titles and am sure they will succeed and flourish under their ownership,” Toynbee said. He also emphasized that this acquisition allows 5m Books to focus on its core areas of agriculture and veterinary sciences, while ensuring that the aquaculture titles continue to thrive.

Continued Growth in CABI Publishing and Partnerships

This acquisition aligns with CABI’s ongoing growth and investment in publishing. Recent partnerships with leading societies, including the International Society for Horticultural Science (ISHS) and the Royal Entomological Society (RES), highlight CABI’s expanding portfolio. From January 2025, ISHS journals will join CABI’s platform, and future editions of the RES’s renowned Handbooks for the Identification of British Insects will be published by CABI. These collaborations further solidify CABI’s role in advancing scientific knowledge and supporting industry professionals worldwide.

With this acquisition, CABI is set to enhance its aquaculture offering, providing essential knowledge and resources to support the rapid growth of this crucial sector. Whether you’re a researcher, student, or industry professional, the CABI Digital Library is now your go-to source for the latest in aquaculture science and practices.
