Absolute takes its AI-led biological agriculture platform INERA to Africa

Indian AI-native biosolutions company begins commercialization of six biological products in Kenya, planning wider expansion across the US & Southeast Asia.

NEW DELHI / NAIROBI | September 15, 2026

Absolute, an AI-native biosolutions company, has officially commenced commercial operations in Kenya for its agricultural biologicals arm, INERA. This strategic move marks the company’s entry into the African continent as part of a broader global initiative to deploy regenerative agricultural solutions at scale across critical farming regions.

To distribute and scale its products locally, INERA has partnered with an established Kenyan agricultural company experienced in floriculture, exotic herbs, and horticulture. The initial commercialized portfolio consists of six biological products focused on two primary areas: Biological Nutrition Management and Plant Physiology & Climate Resilience. These formulations are designed to work at the plant–soil interface, optimizing how crops access and utilize nutrients while bolstering plant performance under environmental stress.

Africa is rapidly emerging as one of the world’s most consequential agricultural growth markets. While holding nearly two-thirds of the world’s remaining uncultivated arable land, the continent’s agricultural productivity trails global averages. In 2024, African cereal yields averaged 1.68 tonnes per hectare, compared to a global average of 4.2 tonnes per hectare. This disparity drives intense demand for technologies capable of raising productivity without merely increasing chemical input intensity.

Why Kenya?

Kenya serves as an ideal launchpad for INERA’s wider African expansion, blending a massive smallholder farming economy with a highly sophisticated, export-oriented horticulture industry. Agriculture is a critical economic pillar, directly contributing approximately 24% of the country’s GDP and supporting the livelihoods of 72% of the population.

  • Horticultural Exports: Kenyan horticulture exports reached KSh136.6 billion in 2024.
  • Floral Dominance: Flowers contributed KSh72.1 billion (53% of export value), with roses accounting for roughly 70% of that figure.
  • Fruit Exports: Generated an additional KSh41 billion.

For growers serving demanding export markets, success is measured by more than just raw tonnage. Variables such as nutrient availability, root health, uniformity, resilience to heat and water stress, residue compliance, and post-harvest performance are paramount. Biological inputs uniquely complement conventional agronomy in these areas by improving nutrient mobilization and overall plant physiology.

Furthermore, Kenyan agriculture is currently navigating declining soil fertility, climatic variability, and a rigorous regulatory transition involving the withdrawal of several conventional pesticides. This environment creates a substantial long-term opportunity for INERA’s pipeline of biological crop-protection technologies—including microbial, peptide, and RNAi-based biocontrols—which are currently navigating local regulatory pathways for future release.

Biology Discovered in Nature, Designed with AI

At the core of INERA’s product-development engine are two proprietary platforms built to discover and design advanced biology:

  • The Nature Intelligence Platform (NIP™): A proprietary repository containing thousands of novel microbes, biomolecules, and enzymes sourced from extreme natural ecosystems such as glaciers, volcanic sites, and deep oceans. The premise is that organisms evolved under extreme stress contain robust biological functions highly applicable to agriculture.
  • Nature+™: An AI-based protein and biomolecule design platform that interrogates massive biological datasets to predict interactions, identify promising molecules, and design specific candidates for targeted agricultural problems before experimental field validation.
“

Africa will be one of the world’s most important agricultural regions over the coming decades, but its productivity gains cannot come from simply replicating input-intensive models built elsewhere. The opportunity is to help farmers produce more from every acre while using nutrients and water more intelligently and rebuilding soil biology. Kenya is our first step towards taking Absolute’s AI and biology platform to farmers across Africa and, ultimately, globally.

From India to a Global Regenerative Agriculture Platform

INERA is establishing its presence in Kenya as a grounded, local commercial operation rather than relying on an export-only model. By pairing INERA’s discovery and validation capabilities with a local partner’s deep market knowledge and distribution networks, the company aims to work directly with local growers and agronomists to validate products across diverse soil and climatic conditions.

This expansion builds upon INERA’s massive foundational field-validation network, which spans over 100 acres across more than 10 agro-climatic zones, supported by over 50,000 field trials and farmer demonstrations. The company continues to actively collaborate with leading agriculture and life-sciences entities, including Olam, ADAMA, ITC, CropNxt, and Jubilant.
