Syngenta has officially launched its REVERTE® soil regeneration program in Paraguay, marking the country as the first in its newly defined Latin America region to implement this large-scale sustainability initiative. Designed to restore degraded lands and promote productive agriculture, the program brings together agronomy, finance, and environmental validation.
REVERTE® aims to help farmers recover degraded land by introducing regenerative agricultural practices. The approach is comprehensive—providing farmers with technical assistance, monitoring systems, and financial access to make the transition to sustainable methods viable and scalable.
- Crop rotation to enhance soil biodiversity and fertility.
- Cover crops to protect soil structure and promote organic matter build-up.
- No-till farming to reduce erosion and carbon emissions.
- Precision agriculture tools to ensure efficient input use and real-time decision making.
The pilot phase is being rolled out in Paraguay’s Chaco and Eastern regions. Farmers were selected based on soil degradation levels and their willingness to adopt new methodologies. These producers are supported not only by agronomic knowledge but also by structured monitoring and financial tools.
One of the key components of REVERTE® is financial accessibility. Through its collaboration with Banco Itaú Paraguay, the program offers long-term loans under the Itaú Campo initiative. These preferential financing options reduce the upfront economic burden on farmers implementing regenerative systems.
To ensure transparency and measurable impact, the program includes third-party oversight by the civil society organization Solidaridad. This group will monitor the progress of farms in the program, validating both soil health improvements and environmental outcomes over time.
The program was officially presented during the “Regenerating Agriculture” Forum in Asunción, Paraguay. This event brought together public and private stakeholders, NGOs, and experts to discuss climate-smart agriculture, regenerative models, and the future of farming in the region.
REVERTE® is not new to Latin America. Originally launched in Brazil in 2021, the program has restored over 250,000 hectares of degraded land and plans to reach one million hectares by 2030. Paraguay marks the next step in regional expansion, with more countries expected to follow.
Globally, Syngenta is working toward carbon-neutral farming practices and greater soil resilience. Similar initiatives are active in China and other countries, all aligned under the company’s sustainability agenda launched in 2020.
The REVERTE® program is a pillar of Syngenta’s Good Growth Plan, backed by $2 billion in global investment dedicated to sustainable innovation. The plan emphasizes increasing agricultural productivity while protecting the environment, supporting farmers, and improving resilience to climate change.
With its REVERTE® program, Syngenta brings to Paraguay a transformative model for regenerative agriculture—blending technical expertise, financial empowerment, and scientific rigor. As the pilot progresses, it is expected to provide valuable insights, scale across the region, and create a lasting environmental and economic impact.
