Bridging Innovation and Practice to Strengthen the Future of Agricultural Retail
by Sulakshana Baruah, Media Manager & GBA KRM
“Agricultural retailers are evolving from product suppliers into full-service technical advisors, helping farmers translate new tools into practical field-level results.”
Advocacy and Innovation Support
The Agricultural Retailers Association (ARA) helps retailers operate at the intersection of innovation and regulation. By advocating with agencies like the USDA and EPA, ARA promotes science-based regulations for crop protection, nutrient management, and biologicals. This advocacy ensures that retailers can implement precision agriculture tools and next-generation fertilizer solutions without facing unnecessary burdens.
The Evolution of the Retailer
As momentum grows for digital agriculture and sustainability, retailers are taking on the role of technical experts who:
- Validate biological products across diverse geographies and systems.
- Integrate digital platforms with agronomic insights to turn data into action.
- Guide growers through conservation programs and emerging environmental markets.
- Help farmers access funding for conservation practices.
ARA Strategic Priorities
ARA focuses on four key pillars to strengthen the U.S. food system:
- Supply Chain: Ensuring consistent access to fertilizers, energy, and crop protection.
- Regulatory Certainty: Streamlining pathways for new technologies to reach the market predictably.
- Workforce Development: Advancing talent to meet complex agronomy and compliance needs.
- Sustainability: Supporting the economically viable adoption of soil health and water quality practices.
