Agrauxine: A Major Technical and Industrial Player in Microorganism-Based Biosolutions for Crops by Jayme Joshi

Agrauxine is Lesaffre’s dedicated agricultural division, specializing in the selection and development of beneficial microorganisms—such as yeasts, fungi, bacteria, and their derivatives—to improve plant nutrition and crop health.

The company develops, manufactures, and markets biosolutions for crops with the aim of reducing reliance on chemical fertilizers and optimizing the use of phytopharmaceutical products, thereby supporting the transition toward more sustainable production systems.

Agrauxine’s products are carefully selected for their functional properties and are subject to a rigorous registration process that ensures both efficacy and safety for farmers and the environment. The portfolio addresses three key areas:

Biocontrol
Combatting plant diseases
Biostimulation
Withstanding abiotic stress
Bionutrition
Improving plant nutrition

Beyond finished products, Agrauxine also offers custom fermentation services to partners across the BioAg industry, leveraging Lesaffre’s long-standing expertise in multiple fermentation technologies. The company has recently achieved successful industrial scale production of Beauveria, Metarhizium, and Streptomyces.

In 2025, Agrauxine expanded access to a broad range of highly qualified ingredients for blenders and tollers. By leveraging Lesaffre’s recognized expertise and industrial know-how, Agrauxine contributes to nourishing and protecting the planet through high-performance solutions that support sustainable agriculture.

Built on Trust

Trust is a cornerstone of Agrauxine’s development. The reliability and consistency of product performance have earned the confidence of key players across the agricultural sector—an asset the company continues to strengthen through ongoing investment in innovative biological solutions. Agrauxine’s expertise enables it to deliver reliable responses to today’s most pressing agronomic challenges.

Yeast Efficiency: Yeast-Based Solutions

In the context of climate change and increasing yield pressure, Agrauxine remains deeply committed to helping farmers preserve productivity. Guided by the philosophy of “one organism; multiple products,” the company has developed a comprehensive range of yeast-based biosolutions compatible with both conventional and organic farming systems under the Yeast Efficiency concept.

Years of R&D have been invested in defining the mode of action and precise composition of each formulation. Built around a single living organism—yeast—this product range highlights the remarkable diversity of yeast and its derivatives in biostimulation, biocontrol, and bionutrition.

Trichoderma: An Agrauxine Success Story

Agrauxine has developed advanced expertise in Trichoderma, supported by a unique production site in Loches, France. This facility specializes in solid state fermentation of filamentous microorganisms, enabling high spore yield and viability, controlled production costs, and reduced contamination risks.

Key Formulations:

  • Tri-Soil: Based on Trichoderma atroviride strain I-1237, registered to combat soil-borne diseases such as Pythium spp. and Rhizoctonia spp.
  • Esquive: Applied to vine trunks to protect against wood diseases such as ESCA, BDA, and Eutypiosis.
  • Verone® and Atroforce®: Featuring the patented Trichoderma atroviride K5 strain, an EPA-registered broad-spectrum bionematicide and biofungicide.
Biostimulants Portfolio

Agrauxine has developed an advanced range of yeast-based biostimulants designed to help growers address climate challenges. Produced through specific fermentation processes, each product has a unique mode of action that supports yield security, crop development, and improved qualitative and quantitative performance.

Smartfoil®: The Yeast-Derived Flagship

Rich in naturally occurring organic and phenolic acids, amino acids, proline, and phytohormones (abscisic acid), Smartfoil® activates plant resistance to abiotic stress. It stimulates genetic, metabolic, and physiological responses, including gene overexpression and antioxidant accumulation.

Advancing the Bionutrition Portfolio

As U.S. soybean yields reach record projections, Agrauxine continues to strengthen its leadership in the legume inoculant market. The company offers a diversified legacy inoculant portfolio tailored to specific distribution channels:

  • America’s Best Inoculant®: Designed for commercial liquid seed treaters.
  • Graph-Ex®: Favored for ease of use and planter box application.

In 2025, Agrauxine launched a new production line for powder formulations, utilizing the patented Rhizolock™ formulation technology. This protects rhizobia and enables combination with talc and graphite for improved application ease.

Looking Ahead: Agrauxine is expanding its innovation pipeline through the Unlock Phosphorus program. This initiative focuses on developing microbial-based solutions that improve phosphorus availability in soils through an ambitious strain-screening program.
