Development of Suterra’s New Grape Mealybug Dispenser

Suterra has introduced a new CheckMate® Grape Mealybug (GMB) dispenser, offering grape growers a highly effective, season-long solution for managing grape mealybugs and the viruses they spread. Announced on July 21, 2025, this innovation supports sustainable pest management strategies in vineyards, especially across regions like California and Washington.

Grape mealybugs are known vectors for grapevine leafroll viruses, which can severely impact fruit quality and vineyard longevity. The new CheckMate GMB dispenser delivers a long-lasting, targeted release of sex pheromones that confuse male mealybugs, preventing them from locating females and disrupting their reproductive cycle.

The development of this dispenser was backed by multi-year, multi-site trials, producing the most comprehensive dataset on grape mealybug mating disruption in the industry to date. Trials demonstrated consistent reductions in male trap captures and significant decreases in overall crop damage, even under intense pest pressure and diverse environmental conditions.

Key advantages of the new CheckMate GMB dispenser include:

  • Season-long control with just a single application per season.
  • High compatibility with existing Integrated Pest Management (IPM) systems.
  • Ease of use through ergonomic design and efficient field deployment.
  • Environmental safety with zero re-entry intervals and no residue issues.

This innovation is a critical step forward in helping growers sustainably manage one of the most damaging pests in viticulture while minimizing their reliance on conventional chemical pesticides. By disrupting the pest’s life cycle without harming pollinators or beneficial insects, the CheckMate GMB dispenser reinforces Suterra’s commitment to environmentally responsible crop protection.

Growers and PCAs (Pest Control Advisors) can access more information and request product samples via the official Suterra website. The dispenser is now available for commercial use and is expected to see strong adoption ahead of the 2026 growing season.
