BioFirst Group, a global leader in sustainable horticulture and agriculture crop management solutions, has announced the appointment of Bart Sosef as the new President of its Plant Products Division. This strategic appointment signifies BioFirst’s deepening commitment to delivering innovative, effective, and environmentally conscious solutions across global farming systems. Bart Sosef will also become a member of the Executive Committee and will report directly to Jean-Marc Vandoorne, Chief Executive Officer of BioFirst Group.

With over 30 years of hands-on experience in the horticulture and agriculture space, Bart Sosef’s leadership arrives at a critical time, as growers and agribusinesses increasingly seek sustainable alternatives to traditional crop inputs. His appointment is expected to accelerate BioFirst’s product innovation and market expansion while keeping grower needs and digital transformation at the core of its growth strategy.

A Deep-Rooted Connection to Horticulture
Hailing from Westland, a region globally recognized as the heartland of horticulture in the Netherlands, Bart’s journey into the agricultural world was both natural and inevitable. Surrounded by advanced greenhouse technologies and a strong community of growers from a young age, Bart developed a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities faced by farmers. This foundation was further strengthened through his experience managing a family-owned retail business, where he cultivated a pragmatic, customer-oriented approach to operations.

His academic pursuits led him to complete an MBA in Food & Finance, equipping him with a robust blend of sector-specific knowledge and financial acumen. This combination has become a hallmark of his strategic thinking, particularly in aligning customer needs with sustainable product development and digital tools.

A Decade of Transformative Impact at Biobest
Prior to joining BioFirst, Bart Sosef served in two pivotal roles at Biobest—General Manager of Biobest Netherlands and Sales Director for the Benelux region. During his tenure, he led several transformative initiatives that reshaped the customer experience and internal operations. His efforts were especially focused on e-commerce development, CRM system integration, and digital sales platforms. Notably, the creation of Biobest’s webshop and data-driven CRM systems under Bart’s leadership modernized how growers accessed and interacted with biological solutions.

Bart’s ability to bridge technological innovation with practical grower needs made him a valuable asset in Biobest’s European market strategy. His leadership style—marked by informality, accessibility, and a strong action-bias—has earned him trust and admiration across the agricultural community.

Steering BioFirst’s Plant Products Division into the Future
As President of the Plant Products Division at BioFirst, Bart Sosef will oversee the strategic development, commercialization, and operational excellence of the company’s diverse portfolio of plant inputs. These include biostimulants, biopesticides, specialty nutrients, and soil health enhancers aimed at improving yield, quality, and environmental sustainability across a wide variety of crops and regions.

Under his leadership, the division is expected to focus on three key areas:

  • Customer-Centric Product Development: Enhancing BioFirst’s R&D pipeline to address localized grower challenges with scalable, science-backed biological solutions.
  • Digital Engagement & Sales Optimization: Leveraging Bart’s digital experience to build intuitive tools and platforms that empower growers to make informed decisions, improve product access, and track outcomes.
  • Global Expansion & Strategic Alliances: Strengthening BioFirst’s market position through strategic partnerships, regional customization, and a renewed focus on value-added services for growers worldwide.

CEO Jean-Marc Vandoorne welcomed Bart to the leadership team, stating, “Bart Sosef embodies the vision, values, and future-readiness that BioFirst stands for. His decades of experience and deep understanding of grower expectations will be instrumental in shaping the next phase of innovation and global outreach for our Plant Products Division.”

Driving Sustainable Agriculture through Leadership
Bart’s appointment comes at a time when global agriculture is under increasing pressure to balance productivity with sustainability. BioFirst’s plant products, which combine biological efficacy with environmental responsibility, are positioned to meet the demands of both large-scale growers and local farming systems. With Bart Sosef at the helm, the division is expected to continue its trajectory as a pioneer in transforming how crops are cultivated and protected—from seed to harvest.

Reflecting on his new role, Bart Sosef commented, “Joining BioFirst is a privilege. I look forward to contributing to a future where farmers are empowered with smart, sustainable, and profitable crop management solutions. Together, we’ll continue building a legacy of trust, innovation, and impact.”
