World leader in RNA for agriculture, GreenLight Biosciences arrives in Brazil

São Paulo, March 26, 2025GreenLight Biosciences, Inc., a pioneer in RNA-based solutions for agriculture, is expanding its operations into Brazil, taking the next step in its mission to offer state-of-the-art crop protection technologies to farmers in one of the world’s largest agri-markets.

“Agribusiness in Brazil has enormous potential and we have a strategic plan to invest and grow in the country,” said Dr. Andrey Zarur, CEO of GreenLight Biosciences. “We know that Brazilian producers face issues that directly impact results and we are committed to offering affordable, effective and sustainable solutions that help protect crops and can serve as an additional tool for integrated pest management.”

GreenLight Biosciences is recognized for being a leader in research, development, and manufacturing. The company has been featured in scientific publications and magazines around the world. It holds a large patent estate including novel RNA manufacturing processes that enable the company to bring products to farmers at a competitive cost.

“We are the only company in the world with a foliar RNA product available on the market. It is not a plan, but a reality,” says Areadne Zorzetto, who leads Sales and Marketing in Latin America for GreenLight Biosciences. In Brazil, the company is already selling FortivanceTM, an enhancer adjuvant for insecticides, and advancing towards the registration of the first RNA product in Brazil.

The RNA technology developed by GreenLight Biosciences is highly selective to a farmer’s pest of concern, which benefits the maintenance of beneficial insects and biodiversity. The products are designed to degrade quickly in the environment, preserving soil health and water quality. It also offers a new mode of action, making it a great fit for pests where resistance makes control a constant challenge for producers.

GreenLight Biosciences’ presence in Brazil is supported by a $25M strategic investment from Just Climate, a new investor focused on scaling solutions for the highest-greenhouse gas emitting sectors of the economy. Just Climate is supported by a local advisory board with deep expertise in Brazilian agribusiness, including Marcos Jank, Professor of Global Agribusiness at Insper, and Pedro Fernandes, Head of Agribusiness at Itaú BBA. The investment aims to strengthen the company’s operations in the country in the long term, including considering a business plan with new product launches coming soon. Furthermore, this movement aims to expand Brazilian producers’ access to cutting-edge technological solutions.

“Brazil is one of the largest agricultural producers in the world and faces challenges in terms of sustainable management. Therefore, we are investing in a solid company, capable of introducing cutting-edge technologies into the agricultural sector. The purpose is to connect rural producers with sustainable and effective alternatives, promoting lasting and long-term partnerships in Brazil,” says Eduardo Mufarej, head of the Natural Climate Solutions strategy and co-Chief Investment Officer at Just Climate.

The company chose Piracicaba, the Brazilian capital of ag technology, for its headquarters in Brazil.
