Wilbur-Ellis introduces BenVireo TerraLux 10-0-0, a liquid organic nitrogen (N) fertilizer that gives organic produce growers a source of N that is pathogen- and weed-free, while its liquid formulation offers flexible application options.

BenVireo TerraLux 10-0-0 is an OMRI-certified organic ammonium nitrate liquid fertilizer that contains 100 percent plant-available nitrogen, low salt and a neutral pH. The versatile liquid product enables an efficient standalone nitrogen application that can kickstart, spoon feed or finish off the crop.

TerraLux is not just a fertilizer, it’s a missing link in creating sustainable and productive organic systems,” says Greg Binford, director of advanced agronomy training with Wilbur-Ellis. “TerraLux provides 100 percent plant available nitrogen in a unique formulation of 50 percent nitrate and 50 percent ammonia. This allows for immediate uptake by plants, increasing the likelihood of better plant growth and higher yields.”

BenVireo TerraLux is developed by capturing ammonia from digestate, reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Using a patented process, this waste stream is transformed into clean water and concentrated ammonia, which is then biologically stabilized into ammonium nitrate to create BenVireo TerraLux.

“Unlike traditional organic nitrogen sources like compost, manure pellets or liquid fish, which require time to mineralize or break down, TerraLux is ready when your plants need it,” notes Binford. “But TerraLux isn’t just about improving crop performance, it’s about making organic systems more sustainable by making your crops more productive with precise amounts of available nitrogen.”

By capturing nitrogen that would otherwise be lost to the environment, Wilbur-Ellis says TerraLux has a negative carbon footprint supporting eco-friendly farming practices. It helps reduce the build-up of salt and phosphates in soils by replacing applications of manure or other animal byproducts, which can provide a more balanced soil fertility program.

“For leafy greens, tree crops or row crops, TerraLux enhances the potential for better quality produce and higher yields with a simplicity organic growers can count on,” says Binford.
