WestMET Group Acquires Black Earth to Strengthen Position in Humic Products Industry

WestMET Group is excited to announce the acquisition of Black Earth, a leading Calgary-based manufacturer of humic products, effective December 6, 2024. This strategic move underscores WestMET’s commitment to leading the biostimulant industry with high-quality, economical solutions powered by its world-class humalite reserve in Sheerness, Alberta.

The acquisition includes Black Earth’s advanced manufacturing facilities in Ryley and Halkirk, Alberta, allowing WestMET to vertically integrate its operations. This will streamline the entire production process—from raw humalite extraction to the finished product—enhancing quality, reliability, and transparency across the humic products sector.

“This is an exciting moment for our enterprise,” said Jeffrey Kukura, president of WestMET Group. “Black Earth brings proven expertise, a strong brand, and an impressive range of products that perfectly align with our vision for sustainable growth. Together, we’re poised to expand our footprint and deliver even greater value to our customers.”

Black Earth’s Trusted Legacy

Black Earth has built a solid reputation in the humic industry with a diverse portfolio of liquid and dry products that serve agriculture, turf, aquaculture, animal feed, and industrial applications. Moving forward, all Black Earth products will incorporate humalite exclusively sourced from WestMET’s Sheerness mine—renowned for its unmatched quality and consistency.

“Joining forces with Black Earth allows us to offer a seamless experience for our customers while leveraging the strengths of both teams,” said David Wittekind, director of business development at WestMET Group. “We’re committed to driving innovation and growth in the humic industry, and this acquisition marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter.”

For years, Black Earth and WestMET Ag—a division of WestMET Group—have collaborated to bring sustainable humic solutions to market. Now, with full integration, WestMET is better equipped to serve distributors, farmers, and industrial partners with products that enhance soil health, improve crop yields, and promote sustainable practices.

Commitment to Sustainability and Innovation

The acquisition reinforces WestMET Group’s dedication to sustainable resource development and cutting-edge solutions that provide long-term value to stakeholders. From supporting progressive agriculture to advancing industrial applications such as land reclamation and drilling fluids, WestMET remains focused on making a lasting impact across industries.
