CABI, in collaboration with the Koppert Foundation, recently hosted a significant visit from the Ambassador of Burundi in The Hague, H.E. Madame Isabelle Ndahayo. The visit aimed to strengthen sustainable agricultural practices, improve smallholder farmer livelihoods, and enhance food security in Burundi.

Dr. Janny Vos, CABI’s Partnerships Development Director, played a key role in organizing the visit, which focused on exploring biological control solutions for crop pests and diseases in Burundi, shifting away from the use of chemical pesticides. This initiative highlights the growing importance of sustainable farming practices in addressing global food security challenges.

CABI has long partnered with the Koppert Foundation to share knowledge on biological pest management, and the collaboration has led to the development of the CABI BioProtection Portal. This portal serves as the world’s largest free global resource for biological pest management, supporting farmers and organizations with valuable information on sustainable solutions for pest control.

The visit signifies a key step in reinforcing the commitment to sustainable agriculture in Burundi, where the use of biological control methods can improve crop yields while safeguarding the environment. The efforts of CABI and the Koppert Foundation continue to inspire change and offer innovative solutions for food security and agricultural sustainability worldwide.
