Windfall Bio’s Partnership with Amazon’s Climate Pledge Fund and Whole Foods Market Highlighted in Annual Sustainability and Impact Reports

This month, Amazon and Whole Foods Market released their annual sustainability and impact reports,
providing an in-depth look at their ongoing commitment and efforts to nourish people and the planet.
In both reports, Windfall Bio was recognized for its innovative nature-based solution
harnessing mems—natural soil microbes that consume methane directly from a variety of
gas streams—to transform methane into high-value organic fertilizer.

Methane is a potent greenhouse gas with over 86x greater warming potential than carbon dioxide
over a 20-year window
. By deploying mems technology, Windfall enables customers across industries
to operate more efficiently and profitably, while simultaneously reducing their overall carbon footprint.
This approach represents a scalable pathway to address both climate goals and agricultural productivity.

Pilot projects with Whole Foods suppliers

As highlighted in the reports, Windfall recently piloted its methane transformation technology on two
dairy farms supplying Whole Foods Market—Straus Family Creamery and Darigold.
In these pilots, Windfall’s bioreactor was strategically placed next to manure lagoons, where the mems
consumed methane and transformed it into nitrogen-rich biomass fertilizer.
The successful results demonstrate how food retailers and their suppliers can reduce Scope 3 emissions
while also generating an economic return from sustainable fertilizer production.

Industry impact

The recognition of Windfall Bio in Amazon and Whole Foods Market’s sustainability reports signals a
broader shift in how major corporations view agricultural supply chain emissions. By integrating
renewable biological solutions directly into farm operations, companies are addressing the challenge
of methane emissions—a leading contributor to climate change—at its source.

Pathway for retailers and suppliers

For food retailers, the technology provides a practical method to meet climate pledges while delivering
tangible benefits to farmers. Suppliers can leverage this model to lower their environmental impact,
unlock cost savings, and access new revenue streams from the production of organic fertilizers.
The pilots create a blueprint for scalable adoption across the dairy and livestock sectors
and potentially beyond, into waste management and energy industries.

Looking forward

Windfall Bio’s recognition underscores the growing importance of nature-based, circular economy
solutions
in corporate sustainability strategies. As companies face increasing pressure to reduce
emissions, innovations that simultaneously improve efficiency and generate economic value are likely to
see rapid adoption. The pilots with Straus Family Creamery and Darigold may serve as a catalyst for
further collaborations across the global food supply chain.
